One of the best tours in town AO Tours Austin

Very nice tour with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Visited from England in 2018, and the whole booking process is very easy (we visited the office on 4th Street). You just pay up, get your tickets, and go along at the time for your tour and you are met right there at the office to be introduced to your guide and given a briefing of where you will be going. The tour vehicles are very comfortable and air conditioned (which was very nice given that we English people don't cope too well with heat XD). There is an audio guide as you are driven around telling the history of the city, with interjections from your guide to point out points of interest and engage with you with the stories of the places you are seeing and some fun "audience participation" trivia chats. The staff are all very friendly and genuinely seem to have a passion for what they are telling you about and proud of their city. Just a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere all round. If you are interested in not just Austin, but the surrounding area too, I cannot recommend this tour enough. Suitable for all, and a great afternoon out.

Enjoyed the architecture tour with Doug Austin Arts & Architecture Tour

Our party of 7 enjoyed the architecture tour with Doug, our excellent, entertaining, informed guide. The tour takes about 2.5 hours, with a few stops, including the wonderful Central Austin Library, Elizabeth Ney house, etc. While there is a recording that provides some info, the real "color" came from Doug who was fantastic. The van is very comfortable, great AC, and while some of us had been to ATX before, we all learned a lot more about the neighborhoods and history of the city.

MUST DO!!!! Ask for Doug! Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

Doug was THE BEST GUIDE!!! This was our favorite activity in Austin. We got a full view of the city, saw Barton Springs, great tour of hill country, and all in a convertible van with Doug as our guide! Highly recommend!!!

Introduction to Austin Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

Excellent customer service experience with the company since first interaction: another company in town let us down, we came across AO Tours and called late in the evening. The representative had great manners and so customer service oriented. She managed to find this tour for the following day. About the tour: our driver Doug was a fantastic guide: knowledgeable, structured and clear explanations, straight to the point with facts and history. I loved the absence of annoying and stupid jokes that too often, in similar tours, it indicates a lack in knowledge. The expectations were fully met: best introduction to Austin that you can get so that you can go back and revisits the place at your own pace . The only downside of this tour was the rest of the group unfortunately: they were very disengage and disrespectful. They got offered best seats in the van and they were constantly on their phones playing games.

Corey was the best driver for an ultimate experience

We had the pleasure of Corey being our driver. He was so detailed and informational. I actually preferred his explanation instead of the radio guided tour. The bus arrived promptly and was clean and accommodating. I love the usb connections to keep your phone charged along the awesome ride. The convertible style bus was a huge a perk, then when it rained a little the huge glass windows were nice to view the city at all angles. Corey’s knowledge was extremely detailed and he had a lot of fun facts and a few jokes that kept us on our toes. He made sure we knew the bus would be parked at all times and made sure we knew what time to head back. He gave us the heads up when to have cameras ready for amazing Austin city views and more. He made several stops to very historic statues, and others that I don’t want to spoil for you. We love the locations the tour offered he even had a back up plan to one of the coffee shops that was overcrowded outside and it was raining. Speaking of rain, he also offered several umbrellas to us as we made stops. Luckily it didn’t rain much, it was very light and short but he handled it well. He has a vibrant loud podcast voice that you can hear all the way in the back and even took talking breaks so we could take in the moment at some of the beautiful spots. Corey was just a 5 Star driver and I highly recommend you request him for a great ride. We loved every single location and hidden mini locations leading up to the main ones. I recommend you start this tour on your first day so you can plan out the rest of your trip with the all of the info you learn about downtown Austin and the outskirts. So so glad we took this tour and was blessed to have Corey as our driver for the ultimate experience.

Extended City Tour and Great Views Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

Phenomenal staff. Upon check in there were friendly smiles, clean bathrooms and a great gift shop. The tour guide was very informative and helpful. I took the extended version and I highly recommend it. Austin is like several little cities all around a city. The trip was so speedy but lots of information packed in.

Fun, entertaining, and educational trip. 100% reccomend Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

The tour guide was absolutely amazing, made the entire trip. He took us to parts of Austin that I had never seen and did a great job of letting us know about the history. This would be a great trip to get to know Austin. We went back and visited a few of the places that he showed us.

Worth taking to maximize your stay in Austin! Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

Super-great! I traveled here for business conference and had some time in the afternoon - taking this tour makes me want to come back on a personal vacation with a guest, as I was able to see that there's lots to experience in Austin! The van we traveled in was extremely clean and comfortable, and our driver was really friendly.

This is the one I'll tell my friends to take Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

This tour is like ordering the sampler or bread basket at your favorite international restaurant, y'all folks with FOMO. You get to see the best of Austin in the near-best way possible. I say near-best because some of these places are best as full day trips when you have the time. Our guide and driver, Cory, was knowledgeable, friendly, and was very clear. He made the trip very enjoyable. He put the convertible top up a couple of times to keep the road noise/heat out. More than enough stops on this route for folks with an active bladder or can't let go their supersized drinks.

Great tour experience Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

Awesome tour of Austin! We had a great tour guy, Doug, who showed us all to see in Austin. Check in to the tour was super smooth and easy to find the busses. Tour lasted about 1.5 hours and we saw all the Austin hot spots. Doug was very knowledgeable, offered great recommendations and know the history of Austin well. Would recommend booking if you're looking to view Austin!

One of the better ones Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

Excellent comprehensive tour of Austin. The tour went first to the fringes of the city giving us a panoramic view of how it is situated among lakes, waterways and spectacular countryside. Then we were treated with a neighborhood by neighborhood ride through the city nd university. It was well narrated with just the right amount of information - history and current - and by both a prerecorded, well produced recording of two people interacting, and our tour guide interjecting during pauses and to answer questions. I routinely take such a tour when arriving in a city in order have an overview before going out on my own. This is one of the better ones. I highly recommend it - comfortable, well accommodated van carried a perfect smallish group.

Good Value and exceeded expectations Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

This 2 1/2 tour in a comfortable van is a MUST for an Austin visit if you are interested in the city beyond its live music and bars. Very good value. I was happy to do it on my first day of 4 so I had a greater appreciation of what I'm now seeing. I saw so much that I would never have seen, was Wowed by the Hill Country and its luxurious homes, saw Barton Springs, climbed to the highest point in Austin and walked around the storied Driscoll Hotel. I hear the company is launching an art and architecture tour and I will come back for it. I was happy I didn't sign up for the 90 minute tour because the city is spread out and there is too much to see.

Great Tour Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

Everything was great, especially Doug our tour guide. He was informative, friendly and told us where to go and not to go for a super time and good food. He even told us where there was some free parking for the State Capital, which I made good use of. My only regret is that we did not take the tour when we first came to Austin as we would have enjoyed our visit much more! Mary in the office is easy to deal with and very accommodating!

The best tour I did in Austin! Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

The best tour I did in Austin! I had originally planned to walk and explore by myself while my boyfriend was in work meetings. Unfortunately, I did not feel safe even in the daytime. By the end of the first day I had already decided I wasn't doing any more exploring unless it was on a tour. That way someone could drive me around, and I would not have to…

Start your Austin vacation here to know EXACTLY where you want to go! Austin and Hill Country Panoramic Sightseeing 2.5 hour tour with stops

From the start of the tour to the end, this was a fantastic adventure. Our guide, Doug, was personable and on point every moment of the tour. His comedic approach was quite welcome and appreciated by all on the trip. He gave us lots of personal recommendations that turned out to be excellent. I would strongly recommend this tour and wish I had taken it earlier in my vacation. We waited for a warmer day so we could have the open air experience. I learned so much about the city which means I will need to come back to explore even further. I would definitely consider taking another tour on our next visit. There were three generations of my family on the tour and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it!

Got just a bit of time to see Austin and its environs? Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

Doug was a perfect guide for this bus tour, thorough, fun, great commentary and an excellent driver. We didn't have much time to spend in Austin and the Austin Visitors Center recommended AO Tours for us. We saw the city highlights (so many parks in Austin) including the downtown and then got out of town to get a taste of the hill country. The Mercedes bus we traveled in was luxe! If you are are short on time, or just want to hit the highlights with friends I highly recommend this tour.

I'm so glad we did this tour early on in our visit to Austin. You really get to see the many neighborhoods of Austin and helped us decide where we might want to revisit later in the week. Beauty of the Hill Country is breathtaking. Our tour guide Jack was very knowledgeable of the city and offered some good tips and recommendations. It's a must - do!

Great overview! Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

3 adults on this 90 minute tour of Austin and the hill country. Tour was all driving in a very comfortable sprinter van that accommodated 14 (there were 10 on the tour). There is an aisle so there are some 2 seaters, aisle, then 1 seat. Could see well through the windows. Driver narrates as well as an audio narration. Saw Hill Country, upscale homes, Lakes (really rivers), and downtown Austin. Gave us a nice overview and some interesting factoids. Greg was a great driver, explained things and did a great Matthew McConaughey. Good value for the cost.

I wish I'd done this tour the first day I was in Austin as it really helped me to gauge where things were so that I could do some exploring on my own. Great little van tour of Austin Austin and Hill Country Sightseeing 90 Minute Non-stop Tour

This is a great 90 min tour of Austin. The van was comfortable and air conditioned. Our driver, Jordan, was great. As we were driving thru the neighborhoods of Austin, he added his own thoughts and personal history to the commentary that was playing during the tour. Best part of the tour- driving thru the Austin cemetery! I highly recommend this tour for those who don't have a lot of time in Austin but want to see alot of the city

Jack is a brilliant guide Downtown Austin Small-Group Panoramic Sightseeing 90 minute Tour

I booked this tour online as we wanted to do a hop on hop off tour when we arrived in Austin. AO tours had good reviews so we decided to book this tour with them. We would have booked the tour with the hill country but it wasn't possible to book that one online only by phone. So i booked this one for 3 of us in December. The booking process was simple and we all had to sigh a waiver by email before the tour which I hadn't had to do before. But we did it easily enough and we were updated accordingly. The departure point is really easy to find and we met Jack our tour guide. He was very friendly and we really enjoyed his tour of downtown Austin. There are only 2 stops where you get off and little time there so we saw a bit but then returned to those places on our own at a later time. The tour is played over a speaker and every now and then jack would add his own touch which made it far better and more personal. All in all it was a really great tour to start our holiday in Austin and get an overview of the downtown area. We also learned a lot about Texas and Austin which was really nice as the tour is very informative. Thank you Jack for a really great tour, you are an excellent tour guide who made it lots of fun and gave a really relaxed, friendly tour and a nice warm welcome to Austin for myself and my family. You also took time to chat to me and my family whenever you could which made the tour all the better. I would definitely book a future tour with AO tours and recommend to family, colleagues and friends.

Great views and insight into Austin history.

Great outing for my parents they didn't require walking. Scheduling was easy and we even received a reminder text in the morning with parking suggestions. The Van was very nice and our tour guide, Doug was very nice and informative. Great views and insight into Austin history.

A brilliant whistle-stop introduction to Austin and Hill Country with great views.

Can I give this tour six out of 5? A true whistle-stop tour of Austin and Hill Country, with an excellent introduction to this beautiful city, its history & future, and stunning views from Hill Country. Our tour guide was Doug, knowledgeable, funny and a safe driver. His commentary, anecdotes and tips of where to go for food, nightlife and more were spot on. I had originally planned to do a more localized walking tour (but didn't due to timing issues) and I'm glad I did the AO Austin and Hill Country tour instead as it gave me a better introduction and understanding of the city and what it has to offer - and has added lots to my "must see & do" list, much of which I may have remained unaware of without the tour. Thank you Doug for a brilliant 90 min introduction to this amazing city. Please note: this tour (Austin + Hill Country non-stop 90 minute) does not have any photo (or other) stops but you will have great views from the minibus.

Austin overview in detail

What a great way to experience Austin. Tour covers a lot of ground with a mix of prerecorded information about the parts of Austin we’re traveling through, alongside the commentary from our tour guide (Doug - who was superb). Highlights for me were Mount Bonnell & Texas State Cemetery (Gene Cernan - what a hero) The tour provides great information, and I’d suggest you do it early in a visit to Austin, it’ll give great guidance on where to spend the rest of your visit.

A great way to get a sense of what you want to explore while in Austin

The Library, it is amazing! With beautiful walking space right across the street. Also Doug the driver was a great host, a little bit of historical data with current history of each section of town and interlaced with some funny personal stories. Glad I went!

– Marilyn_S via Viator
It was a really good value.

I did the "Austin + Hill Country Panoramic Tour with Stops" tour, and really enjoyed it. Since I flew in and did not rent a car, this was the best way I found to see the areas outside of downtown that I could not get to on foot. Ari was an excellent guide, and it was a beautiful day for an open-air tour. It was perhaps a little on the pricier side, but when you consider it's a very small-group tour (I think the van only seated maybe 12 and there were only 4 of us on board) and the tour lasted 2.5 hours, it was a really good value.

We were going to do the hop on hop off bus tour but it didn’t run early in the week. The Austin Tourist centre recommended this trip and we are so glad we took it! We enjoyed being able to have an overview of Austin, before deciding what we want to see more of. Our driver/guide Doug was entertaining and shared stories and pointed out good places to visit. It was great get up into the hills and see another perspective of Austin. Thanks to Doug we now plan to see State Congress and the city library.

Great tour - especially at beginning of your trip

Tour was great! I think our tour guide was Carson and he was hilarious and so chill. Very knowledgeable and the route taken made a lot of sense for when I wanted to revisit many of the spots we passed. Just the right amount of time for a tour and especially in this hot weather - well air conditioned van was very much appreciated. Great guide, price, service and staff

The tour guide Ms. Ari was awesome. My family enjoyed the bus trip. First time to Austin, I’ll be back!

I was in town for a meeting and had time to spare. Not knowing the city of Austin at all I decided the tour would be a great way to get a good overview. It was 90 minutes with both narration by recording and information from the driver/host. I thoroughly enjoyed the time and what I learned about Austin. It made me want to return to actually enjoy what the city has to offer.

Comfortable way to learn about Austin

We worked our way to the visitors bureau where we met our tour guide Carson. He was very friendly and considerate as he gathered our group together. We were in a comfortable, clean Mercedes air-conditioned van for our tour. It was a great way to see the city as well as the outskirts-Hill Country. Carson was very knowledgeable on his own and, there was a scripted narration as well. He also knew the area very well as he had to navigate traffic and road blocks. There were no opportunities to take photos except through the windows as there are no stops. Thanks Carson for sharing your home town history with us.

Make sure to choose AO you won't regret it

Let me premise this with I am not a fan of tourist city tours and if I ever do go on one it's usually just a map I paid to go on. With that said this tour was extremely entertains and our driver Joel was very easy to listen and very engaging! I thought for sure I had just paid $49 to take a nap but I was severely mistaken!! The tour was very informative and gave some excellent details about the amazing city of Austin!!! If you're choosing to do a tour in Austin make sure to choose AO you won't regret it. Also make sure to ask for Joel you won't be disappointed

This is definitely worth while to get a sense of what Austin has to offer

We had a tour that used the open air van which was great. It happened to be a not too hot day so it was nice to ride around and see the sites without looking through a window. Our tour guide was personable and knowledgeable. He was attentive to all questions and making sure that we all got from the trip what was important to us. Overall, this is a great way to see Austin and included a couple of stops along the way to roam around a bit. Being new to the city, you can get a good overview of the neighborhoods, history, and other notable sites. This is definitely worth while to get a sense of what Austin has to offer.

This is a great way to comfortably see and learn about weird Austin!

The trip gave us a wonderful overview of Austin, from the hills outside of town with gorgeous views and homes/mansions, to the unique and lovely streets, restaurants and buildings downtown. The taped audio guides were fun and informative, and our careful, safe driver was knowledgeable about Austin. The van was very comfortable.

The Essential general tour of Austin

We were in Austin for just a few days so we needed just one tour that did a general overview of everything there was to see there. This tour did exactly that, we saw pretty much all the top sights in and around Austin in a nice comfy Mercedes Benz Sprinter driven by an excellent tour guide. We chose the extended tour that lasted about 2.5 hours and made about 3 different stops. I highly recommend this one if you are only in Austin for a short time.

Excellent tour with a really good tour guide. We enjoyed the experience in a super clean comfortable vehicle. The tour guide was knowledgeable and fun. Austin truly is a beautiful city. This tour shows us places we would not have got to see. Worth every penny don’t hesitate to take the tour.

Worth it!

Loved our tour guide! Learned so much in an enjoyable and engaging way. A great way to get a thorough overview of Austin.

Lovely way to see Austin

This was a very comfortable and interesting tour. In the past we have always booked on the hop on/ hop off bus, this is so much better! Love the open top of the van. Love that we are able to get out and explore at different stops. Love the commentary provided both by the guide and the pre programmed audio. Loved that it was a small group with extra Covid precautions. Really loved everything about this❤️

Excelente y divertida experiencia

A must-do even if you lived here for years!

The experience was awesome! Joel was very informative and personable! I've lived in Austin for 20 years and learned a lot! Will be doing it again with future out-of-town guests!

Great Sightseeing!

We love these tours in every city we visit - this one was particularly fun, van very comfortable as it was hot in Austin even in March! Our guide was great, we all connected and had a lot of good conversation and saw so much of the city sites. Really got a good sense of the area and this helped us plan the rest of our sight seeing for our trip. Recommend it highly!

Great overview of the city

Our driver, Ali, was very knowledgeable about the Austin area and provided an excellent overview of the city. I would highly recommend the 2 1/2 hour tour because you have the opportunity to see some of the sites by getting off of the bus.

Terrific tour!

Guide was great! The weather was great! Really cool vehicle!!! The Hill Country was particularly beautiful and so surprising that it is in Texas.

BEST Tour Company in Austin, TX!

AO Tours, an iconic company in the City of Austin. Their amazing tours are fit for any size groups. I have been many times with various clients and never disappointed. Recently, we rode in their new lux tour bus, it was so much fun, very comfortable, the glass roof was impressive and when opened you felt the awesome city. The audio explanation of the sights was on spot, including the Spanish version. AND...they are sanitizing their vehicles every day with a hospital grade product via their tech machines. Talk about a Clinically Clean touring service!

Fabulous tour for the newcomer

The tour was a great overview of Austin. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the area and although she had been driving all day, still treated my tour with great enthusiasm and was extremely pleasant. It is a difficult time to be in the tour business and I was just so appreciative they are still up and operating whilst taking the necessary precautions to not spread Covid with hand sanitizers, Temp readings and spraying down the buses. Five stars to the management team and thank you for being in the business of making memories. Hang in there!

The best tour in Austin Texas!

I wish I could give this company more than 5 stars. The company owner reached out and helped us come up with a custom tour in the over 100* heat. While other tour companies are closed during Covid, we were able to have fun during our stay in Austin with our 2 tours in their luxurious air conditioned ride. If it were not for this tour company, we would have been sitting in our hotel our entire vacation. Thank you so much for your tour of Austin Texas.

Beautiful Panoramic and/or Open Air Busses!

My convention booked a private tour with this company and it was great! We had a beautiful bus that was all windows so it offered a beautiful panoramic view of the city and hill country. We had a couple stops, one of them at Covert Park for sunset. The driver planned it PERFECTLY so we were able to enjoy the gorgeous view of the lake and hills at sunset. Our guide was named Will and he made sure everyone had a wonderful experience! They also had an audio tour component where they offer disposable earbuds so every guest can hear the tour, loud and clear! Great for city traffic or the hearing impaired. All appropriate precautions were taken including social distancing, temperature checks, and sanitizing.

Highly recommended!!

Having Malina as our guide was my favorite aspect of the tour — she’s PHENOMENAL!!! This was my second tour with Malina; she knows the city so well that she’s able to share insights and “behind the scenes” details and history, which makes things extra interesting!

Custom tour Austin and Hill Country

Our group of 10 loved traveling in the new glass top vehicle for our private tour. Mary and Bree incorporated our interests into a 4 hour tour of city and Hill Country that was a great combination of riding, walking, eating and photos. Bree was so knowledgeable, accommodating, and fun. Loved hearing her stories! Red and White wine tasting was our final stop - perfect ending for our memorable tour!

Short on time- perfect way to get an overview of Austin

I didn't have time for a long tour because I was in town for a wedding. Still, I wanted to see an overview of Austin and know where to visit in my limited time. AO Tours had multiple start times and the online scheduler was easy to use. I was able to decide at 10AM to take the 12:30 tour. This tour was ideal. It was a combination of a recorded narration and live commentary from our driver/guide. Joel was friendly and informative. Van was comfy. I highly recommend it.

Austin Walking Tour - Great way to be introduced to the city

We did a walking tour that included some food sampling’s as well. It was a great way to be introduced to the city. The guide was very friendly, prompt, and was very knowledgeable about Austin and downtown. The owner was very accommodating as well and helped put a tour together for us during this time of Covid. Great communication and a great tour.

Comprehensive overview of Austin!

"I love the small vehicle aspect of this tour. Bri was a great tour guide, a very competent driver, and very knowledgeable about Austin and the surrounding hill country. It's clear she loves her city. And she is very personable and responsive to questions. The hill country portion of the tour was very informative about the geography of the area and how it influences weather, water geology and even agriculture. The tour helped me to decide what places I want to visit in depth."

Historic Tour of Austin

"The most comprehensive overview of Austin. It is a narrated tour filled with geography, the rich history and culture of Austin. I strongly recommend this tour!"

You can’t go wrong...

Took several tours in a few day’s time. Every guide was extremely personable and knowledgeable. All tours departed on time and sometimes went a bit long in order to answer questions or show us just a little more! Tours are popular and fill up very quickly. All tours are value packed and worth every cent! You can’t go wrong...

Amazing tour

"This tour was better than I expected. Excellent tour guide that gave us the History of the area and showed us some amazing places. I've lived in the Central Texas area and had no idea how beautiful Austin was. This is a MUST SEE tour if you are coming from out of town. The Mercedes bus was very comfortable. We got to see all of the "must see" areas of Austin and then some. I highly recommend this tour!"

Fun tour

"We went on the 12:30, Sunday afternoon tour. It was a great way to see a lot of the city in a fairly short time, and a lot of places we wouldn't have seen on our own. The van was comfortable and we could see well."

Seamless

"Just the way it should be. A great way to spend a cool 90 minutes to get an overview of the city. Then, we went back to the sites we wanted to spend more time at. Easy!"

Recommend for first timers

This is highly recommend for first timers to understand the history of Austin and the surrounding area. Enjoyed it and actually goes by very quick and very informative.

A million times I've seen these buildings

A million times I've seen these buildings, those houses, these streets... I thought I knew everything about. Too many times I took the history of these places for granted. A lot of the history shared on the tour, paired with the familiar sights was refreshing, if not a little eye-opening as well. Even though Austin's scenery is (always) in flux, it's just as beautiful if not more so. This tour reminded me of that fact.

Would definitely recommend this to friends or people visiting town!

As a local Austinite, I wasn't sure what to expect from an Austin city tour. I was pleasantly surprised and I learned SO much. It was a rainy day, but our tour guide was positive, happy, and very professional. We rode their pano van (which typically opens all the way up, but didn't due to weather), which is awesome. The whole roof is windows, along with huge passenger windows so you have a gorgeous view.
